IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT

DDSC have two important announcements to make ahead of the return to the normal swimming schedule in September.

1. Club restructure

2. Coaching appointments

Club restructure

Over recent times DDSC has suffered, and continues to suffer, with a lack of available pool time. We have exhausted all available time at the Droitwich pool, and have added time at other pools in the region (Kings and Holy Trinity). In order that we get the best return from our pool time, and can provide the highest quality and standard of training sessions for our development and performance squads, we have revisited our squad structure, and produced a plan which we believe will give us a more dynamic approach to swimmer development and training, and provide the most benefit for those swimmers likely to take us to National League glory, and to represent us at County, District, and National championships.

Our intention is to implement this plan for October 1st 2009, and to create a new performance "Platinum" squad that will run in parallel to the existing development squad structure of Dolphins to Sharks to Bronze to Silver to Gold. Club will continue to exist for those swimmers that wish to undertake structured training session for personal fitness and enjoyment.

Selection for the Platinum squad will be based on a balance of swimmer attendance and attitude to training, potential for achievement at County level and beyond, and likelihood to represent the club in the National League.

Over the next couple of weeks, the coaching committee will be finalising the selections for each of the development squads and the Platinum squad, and all swimmers will receive personal communication of their squad allocation in due course. There may be amendments required to standing orders as fees may need to be adjusted in some cases as the club's timetable is refined.

Selection for the Platinum squad is not a once only exercise. All swimmers that find themselves in the Development squads will have the opportunity to include a move to the Platinum squad as part of their personal swimming objectives, and for those swimmers that wish to improve, encouragement and support will be available in abundance. The more swimmers that we are able to legitimately include in the Platinum squad, the better for the club - it is from here that our competitive teams will take the club forward.

Please bear with us whilst we iron out any wrinkles that this restructure creates, and should anyone disagree with their selection status once the squads are announced, they should take the opportunity to discuss with their coach.

This restructure will not have an impact on Dolphins, Sharks, or Bronze, at this stage. Our restructure is currently being targetted at the current Silver, Gold, and Club squads.

Coaching Appointments

Since the departure of Simon Hillson in 2008, DDSC has been actively seeking a replacement coach. During this time, Malcom Latta has acted as caretaker coach, and along with the rest of the poolside coaching and teaching staff, has done an outstanding job for which the club is very grateful. Malcolm does not wish to take the role on a permanent and full time basis due to personal reasons, hence our continued search for a replacement coach.

DDSC are now pleased to announce the appointment of TWO new coaches to the poolside staff, with effect from September 1st 2009.

James Nock will continue to work with DDSC, albeit on a more formal basis, and will take responsibility for the development and performance of the club's new Platinum squad. James is currently working with DDSC in his second stint, having just completed a successful year coaching in Australia. James has extensive experience of swimming up to national level, and has just undertaken his level 2 coaching course.

Sue Marsh (formely Sue Aldridge) will be joining the club as our Senior Development coach. Sue will have responsibility for the new Silver, Gold, and Club squads. Sue's objectives will include the development of swimmers who can move over to the Platinum squad. Sue is a level 3 qualified coach, with a proven track record in swimmer development at Bromsgrove Swimming Club where she took the junior squad to the first division of the Nuneation League. Sue will join us on 1st September, although the new squad structure will not be completed until 1st October.

Sue and James will work together in the coming weeks to redesign the club's training cycles to ensure that our swimmers are properly prepared for the club's calendar, with a joint objective to achieve success in this season's National League, and to improve on this year's excellent performance at County and District championships.

We wish James and Sue all the very best of success in their new roles with Droitwich Dolphins.

Club Restructure By Martin Nicholas on Oct 18 2009 at 9:11 PM
Congratulations to all involved in the club restructure, it has turned out to be a very good outcome, in my opinion. I am sure that the changes will help the club to achieve its ambitions. The new PB look-up table and website in general are also very useful - thanks.

Thank you for your valued feedback. We believe the club is going in the right direction, and it's always nice to hear feedback that supports the changes.
