Adam and Sarah McConnell represented Droitwich this weekend in a B grade open meet at Stoke on Trent. This is a really friendly open and great for first timers to try dipping their foot in the open meet pool. Stoke is only an hours drive, there is ample free parking and they have a fab swim shop. The best bit is they award medals to top 6 places. It is a 2 day event with 50m, 100m and 200m of each stroke and 100m and 200m I.M.
Sarah entered just one event as it was her first open, she did the 9 yrs 50m Breast stroke, she did a lovely swim, with a great dive (this has been an area she has lacked confidence in, but all the recent dive practice in training has paid off) she didn’t get a medal , but got a 2 second PB. She was very happy and, wished she would have entered more events.
Adam entered 4 events, 50m free 6th place medal, 100m fly 4th place medal, 200m free 5th place medal and 100m free 5th place medal and a PB. So he came away happily with 4 medals, but was a little disappointed at just the 1 PB. It was a whole weekend of swimming for us but worth it for the experience. (full results will be posted on the club website)
